The Oaks of Clearwater understands that the transition into a retirement community can be overwhelming. The transition itself, and the understanding of the retirement industry often sparks several questions, and during this time we are here to help! Provided below are a list of frequently asked questions that individuals looking for retirement communities should consider asking to help them find the right community!

Q: What type of care is available and what are my options?

Every retirement community has different levels of care that they offer their residents. Some retirement communities are a singular level of care, some are more than one. The Oaks of Clearwater offers four different levels of care; Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing. Through our various levels of care we are able to accommodate for a variety of different patient needs, and accommodate a wide range of services to meet the needs of our residents. We also offer additional levels of care to add on to our standard services that include Extended Personal Care and Limited Nursing Services. An additional charge is applicable for Extended Personal Care and Limited Nursing Services. We also offer companion services that are contracted to assist with a la carte care services for our residents in need of specific services that do not require a level of care change.

A brief explanation of care services is listed below:

Independent Living is retirement living for individuals generally 55 and older who reside in a retirement community and function independently, without any care services.

Assisted Living is retirement living for individuals in need of assistance with one or more activities of daily living.

Memory Care is retirement living for individuals who are in need to assistance with one or more activities of daily living, and who suffer from cognitive impairment as a result of memory loss related to Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

Skilled Nursing/ Rehabilitation is retirement living focused on providing 24 hour nursing care. This sector of senior living is often referred to as nursing home living, and is total care assistance.

Q: Can I receive assistance with the ordering and management of my medications?

At The Oaks of Clearwater medication management is included in our all-inclusive lifestyle for our assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing residents. We take responsibility or ordering, distributing, and refilling our resident’s medications in these levels of care. Q: How do we determine what level of care I need?

Determining the level of care appropriate for a specific resident varies per community. At The Oaks of Clearwater we conduct a pre-admission nursing assessment for every potential resident looking to enter our community. This assessment is a basic declaration of a potential resident’s health care needs, concerns, and medical history, and is conducted through our in house nursing staff. This information gives us the directions we need to understand how to properly care for our residents. Once we determine what is necessary to care for them, we then recommend the appropriate level of care that best addresses their needs in our building. Our primary concern is the safety of our residents, and we always attempt to provide them with the opportunity to live in the most appropriately functioning environment to foster their success. Our pre admission nursing assessment allows our team the opportunity to evaluate whether or not a potential residents care is within our abilities as well. If for some reason an inquiring potential resident’s care requires more than we can provide, we utilize our network of community partners and providers to recommend alternate placement.

The Oaks of Clearwater does offer 24-hour nursing care to our residents that reside in our skilled nursing community, and the other sectors of our building have access to nurses and healthcare staff 24 hours a day.
